Before this year, it never once occurred to me that I might one day be referred to as a cat dad. Now that such a day has come, it only seems right to commemorate it with the start of a cat blog. That’s not the real reason for this blog though…
As excited as I am to share my experiences living with a cat, the real reason for this blog is that I’m a compulsive researcher. I’m always on the internet and reading books to figure out the best ways to do things or to dive deep into my hobbies. This need to research will be no different with cats, so I figured why not have a place to share my thoughts and findings. Here I can discuss cats as much as I like – there’s no need to bore my friends with the amazing kitty litter I found or how much my cat loves eating from her new puzzle feeder. Plus, I haven’t seen any other cat dads blogging, so I figured why the hell not? I think it puts me in a position to provide an interesting perspective within the feline world.
Who is this cat dad anyway?
My name’s Tristen and I’m a wedding photographer and eclectic hobbyist. I have a love for craft beer, stylish plants (that are safe for cats), and fresh pour-over coffee. I live in New Jersey with my girlfriend Noor and our newest feline companion. We all get along well (for the most part), but bringing our new friend home has certainly made life more interesting. Speaking of which…
…this is my little furball…
Her name is Java, but sometimes I call her Java Chip. Yup – her name was inspired by a craving for a Starbucks’ Java Chip Frappuccino, and no, I’m not ashamed of that.
Name aside, she’s pretty fucking adorable. I’m sure no new cat adoption comes without initial challenges, but she’s honestly been such a great cat and I’m obviously obsessed with her. She came out from hiding no less than 24 hours after moving in and it didn’t take long for her to think I only exist to keep her entertained.
Like I said though, no cat is without challenges, and initially there were some struggles with her eating enough. Thankfully though, Noor figured out the issue was that she likes to eat with company close by (clingy much?). She’s also had to deal with a minor ear infection but that’s clearing up too!
As she’s my first and currently only fur baby, I do a proper amount of spoiling and know there’s plenty more to come. My hopes are that as I treat her to new cat things, like toys, trees, and treats, I’ll be able to share what works for me and what doesn’t.
I’m by no means a cat expert and don’t plan on pretending to be one, but I do hope that my research, the conclusions I come to, and my personal experiences with Java can serve to help other cat owners out there. Java’s quite the particular cat, so my bet is if she likes something, plenty of other cats might as well. And worst case, at least other cat lovers can find some amusement from the crazy cute shit she does!
…and these are my plans for Whiskers & Milk!
Java and I are both excited to have you follow along with the blog! I plan on posting about a lot of things other cat owners could appreciate: cat health & wellness, training tips, behavioral advice, and my experiences with all products cat-related, amongst other cat things.
I also plan on writing about things for cat lovers in general, like fun cat facts, cat memes & cartoons, and talented pet artists that I come across. Whiskey and coffee recommendations could possibly sneak into the mix, and I might have an opinion or two on styling plants and home cooking… but I guess you’ll have to stick around to see!
If this sounds like your jam, subscribe to my newsletter! If not, feel free to drop me a line and suggest things you’d like to hear me write about.
Cheers to having you here!
